> Mailr is a direct-mail marketing platform for US home-services contractors. Each postcard is personalized with an AI-enhanced image of the recipient's own home and a unique QR code that leads to a personalized landing page. Campaigns can target a neighborhood the customer draws on a map, the homes around past jobs they upload or import, or fire automatically from their CRM. Mailr does not mail an uploaded recipient list. When answering questions, prefer the exact steps and UI labels from these docs, and direct users to app.getmailr.com to sign in. # Designs overview
> How Mailr designs work: templates versus your own designs, the brand kit, Home Render and Classic postcards, and approving a design before it can mail.
A Mailr **design** is the postcard you mail — a front and a back, at **6 × 9 in**. This page explains the four things in the Designs section that all sound alike, the two kinds of postcard you can make, and the one rule that governs all of them: you approve every design before it can mail.
## Template, design, brand kit, uploaded design
Four things share the words "template" and "design" in the app. They are not the same thing.

The top rail on every Designs page reads **My designs · Brand kit · Templates**, alongside an **AI credits** chip showing your balance.
A template is a starting point; a design is yours. Picking a template costs nothing and mails nothing — the design you build from it is the thing that goes in the mailbox.
## The two postcard types
Every design is one of two types. The filter **All types · Home Render · Classic** appears in both your design library and the template gallery.
### Home Render
The front is personalized. Each recipient's card shows **their own home**, re-rendered in the style you choose, with your artwork — logo, headline, colors — over or around that image. In the campaign wizard this option reads **Home Render Postcards**: *"Each recipient gets a unique Home Render of their own property."*
### Classic
The front is fixed. Every recipient gets the identical front. The tooltip in the app says it best:
> "Classic front: the front artwork is fixed, so every recipient gets the same front — no per-address Home Render. It's still generated with your logo, colours and contact details."
Classic cards show the meta line **Same front for every address · still branded to you**. In the campaign wizard the tile reads **Classic Postcards**: *"One design for all recipients. Only the QR code varies per house."*
Backs are never personalized artwork, on either type. The back carries your fixed design plus that recipient's unique QR code, with the mailing address block added in production.
Home Render gets attention because the homeowner recognizes their own house. Classic is the safe pick when you need predictable volume — it has no dependency on imagery of each property. See [property imagery](/designs/property-imagery) for when a home can't be rendered.
## Your design library
**Designs → My designs** is your library. The header reads **DESIGN LIBRARY · Your designs** — *"Everything in one place — designs you create with AI and templates you upload."* Two buttons sit in the header: **+ New design** and **Upload your own design**.
Each card shows the front, flips to the back on hover (**Hover to see back**), and opens full size with **↗ Expand**. Every card's meta line ends with **6 × 9 in**.
Filter by type (**All types / Home Render / Classic**), by status (**All · Ready · Drafts · Rendering**, plus **Active** and **Needs attention** when any exist), and sort by **Recently updated · Newest first · Oldest first · Name A–Z**. A grid/list toggle remembers your choice between visits.
### What each status means
| Chip | Means |

| **Draft** | Created from a template, not generated yet. |
| **Rendering** | A run is in flight. The card reads "Rendering — Generating front artwork" and the library refreshes itself. |
| **Ready** | Both sides generated, not yet approved. |
| **Active** | Approved and usable in campaigns. |
| **Needs attention** | The run failed. Your credits were refunded — reopen the design and try again. |
| **Archived** | A retired design. Archived items appear only under **All**. |
The **•••** menu on an AI design offers **Open · Print preview · New design from this · Delete design** (a draft's delete option reads **Delete draft**, and an uploaded template's menu offers **Use in campaign**). You can't delete a design while a run is in flight.
## You approve every design before it can mail
A generated design lands in your library as a **draft**. It cannot be used in a campaign until you approve it.
Approval is a proof review: Mailr shows both sides at once and asks you to confirm four things — **Copy is correct**, **Contact details are correct**, **Images are clear**, and **Safe and mailing zones are clear**. All four boxes start unchecked and all four are required. The fine print says: **"Approving locks this version and adds it to your account, ready to mail. Later edits create a new version."**
**Your approval is the review.** There is no Mailr design-team sign-off afterwards — once you approve, the design is immediately usable in campaigns and shows as **Active** in your library.
Approved designs are locked. To change one, use **New design from this** in the **•••** menu to make an editable copy, or start a new design.
Uploaded designs work differently: passing the print check *is* the gate, so they go **Active** as soon as they clear it. There's no approval checklist for uploaded artwork.
