> ## Agent Instructions
> Mailr is a direct-mail marketing platform for US home-services contractors. Each postcard is personalized with an AI-enhanced image of the recipient's own home and a unique QR code that leads to a personalized landing page. Campaigns can target a neighborhood the customer draws on a map, the homes around past jobs they upload or import, or fire automatically from their CRM. Mailr does not mail an uploaded recipient list. When answering questions, prefer the exact steps and UI labels from these docs, and direct users to app.getmailr.com to sign in. For anything involving account-specific data, billing disputes, or mail that appears lost, direct the user to support@getmailr.com.

# Suppression list & opt-outs

> Keep addresses off your mail with the suppression list, learn Do Not Contact vs Customer entries, and see how recipients opt out from a postcard.

Your **suppression list** is your do-not-mail list: addresses Mailr excludes when it builds an audience. Some entries you add yourself, some arrive from your CRM, and some come from homeowners who asked to stop receiving mail. Honoring those requests is both the right thing to do and required — and it keeps your response rates honest by spending postage on people who want to hear from you.

## The Suppression list page

Open **Assets → Suppression list** in the sidebar. The page reads: *"Addresses on this list are excluded from your campaigns. They can still be used as target addresses for nearby campaigns."*

That last sentence matters for [Neighborhood Reactivation](/campaigns/targeting): a past customer's address can still be the center point you mail *around* — it just never receives a card itself.

### The two categories

Every row carries one of two badges.

| Badge              | What it means                                                                                                                                                                                                                         |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Do Not Contact** | *"Addresses you never want mail to go to — excluded from every campaign, no matter the campaign's audience setting."* |
| **Customer** | *"Past and current customers. Excluded from campaigns by default; auto-added from your CRM (closed-won deals / completed jobs) once an integration is connected. Only mailed if a campaign is explicitly set to 'send to everyone'."* |

The **Source** column tells you where each row came from: Manual, CSV Upload, Webhook, HubSpot, CRM, CRM Import, Deal Won, and **Recipient Opt-Out**.

<Warning>
  **Do Not Contact addresses are never mailed — in any campaign, in any audience mode, including "Send to everyone."** That is the one exclusion nothing overrides.
</Warning>

## Add addresses yourself

The **Add address** card — *"Manually add an address or upload a CSV file"* — gives you three ways in:

* **Add one address** — type it into the address field (placeholder `e.g. 123 Main St, Austin, TX`), pick a category — **Do Not Contact** or **Customer** — and add optional **Notes** for your team.
* **Upload a CSV** — add many addresses at once, for example a list of existing customers you don't want mailed.
* **Import from CRM** — press **Import from CRM** to pull your closed-won deals and completed jobs in as **Customer** rows. Once a CRM integration is connected, new ones are added automatically — see [Integrations](/integrations/overview).

<Tip>
  Adding an address to **Do Not Contact** is the strongest protection available and takes seconds. Do it as soon as a homeowner asks you directly — by phone, at the door, or by email.
</Tip>

## How a recipient opts out

Every postcard carries a unique QR code that leads to that household's own landing page. The disclosure strip at the bottom of that page links to a **Do Not Mail** page. It's public, needs no login, and isn't indexed by search engines.

The page is headed **"Stop mail to 123 Main St?"** — with the recipient's own address — and explains:

> This removes your address from the mailing list of the business that sent this mail, and from every other business that sends mail through Mailr. It takes effect immediately and applies to future mailings.

The recipient presses **Yes, remove my address**, and sees **"Done."** — *"123 Main St has been removed from this sender's mailing list and from all other businesses that mail through Mailr. You can close this page."* If they change their mind before confirming, closing the page does nothing: *"Changed your mind? Just close this page — nothing happens until you confirm."*

The address is then kept on the do-not-mail list and used only for suppression, as the page's footer states.

<Note>
  The link on a postcard's landing page is the **only** route to opting out. There's no page where someone can type in any address they like — that's deliberate, so nobody can suppress a neighbor's address.
</Note>

In your suppression list, that request appears as a **Do Not Contact** row with source **Recipient Opt-Out**. You can delete that row from your own list, but the platform-wide suppression stays in place and can't be reversed by your workspace — the homeowner asked every Mailr sender to stop, and Mailr honors it.

## How "Who to mail" and cooldowns interact

Every campaign and [automation](/campaigns/automations) has a **Who to mail** setting: *"Choose which exclusion lists to apply when finding neighbors."*

| Option                                                   | What it does                                                                                                                                                     |
| -------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Standard (recommended)** *(default)* | *"Skips recently mailed homes and recent customers — both age back in after your cooldown windows (set in Settings). Do-not-mail addresses are always skipped."* |
| **Skip all customers and previously mailed** | *"Excludes every customer on your list, no matter how old, plus anyone who has already received a postcard within your mail cooldown."* |
| **OK to re-mail people who already received a postcard** | *"Still excludes all existing customers, but ignores the sent history."* |
| **Send to everyone** | *"No customer or mail-history exclusions. Do-not-mail addresses are still excluded — they are never mailed."* |

Two workspace-wide timers decide how long **Customer** rows and recently mailed homes stay excluded:

* **Mail cooldown (days)** — default **30**. How many days before an address can be mailed again.
* **Customer cooldown (months)** — default **24**. Customers added inside this window are skipped in **Standard** mode; older ones can be mailed again.

Both live on the Account page — see [Workspace settings](/account/workspace-settings). Neither one affects **Do Not Contact**, which is always skipped.

<Check>
  On the **Review & Submit** step of a campaign, the **Suppression list** row shows the exact effect — for example *"1,240 homes found · 96 excluded"*. That's your suppression list doing its job.
</Check>
