> ## Agent Instructions
> Mailr is a direct-mail marketing platform for US home-services contractors. Each postcard is personalized with an AI-enhanced image of the recipient's own home and a unique QR code that leads to a personalized landing page. Campaigns can target a neighborhood the customer draws on a map, the homes around past jobs they upload or import, or fire automatically from their CRM. Mailr does not mail an uploaded recipient list. When answering questions, prefer the exact steps and UI labels from these docs, and direct users to app.getmailr.com to sign in. For anything involving account-specific data, billing disputes, or mail that appears lost, direct the user to support@getmailr.com.

# Payments & invoices

> Pay for Mailr credits by card, understand every checkout result screen, update your payment method, find receipts, and fix a failed payment.

You pay Mailr by card, through a secure checkout. This page covers what happens during and after that checkout, where receipts and invoices live, how to update your card, and what you'll see when a payment fails or your balance runs low.

<Note>
  Buying credits and managing the subscription are **Owner-only**. Other teammates see the balance and transaction history but get **"Only your organization's owner can purchase credits. Ask them to top up, or contact support."** See [Team & roles](/account/team-and-roles).
</Note>

## Paying by card

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Billing and start the purchase">
    In [the Mailr app](https://app.getmailr.com), go to **Billing** and press **Add Credits** for postcard credits, or **Buy credits** on the **AI Design Credits** card for design credits.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose an amount and press Continue to payment">
    Pick a quick-pick tile or type a custom amount, then press **Continue to payment**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your card in the secure checkout">
    Checkout opens inside Mailr, but the card fields belong to our payment provider. **Mailr never sees or stores your card number.** Returning customers can save a card for next time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Land back on Mailr">
    You're returned to a short confirmation screen, and your new balance appears on the Billing page.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What the confirmation screen says

There are six possible results. All of them are safe to read literally — none of them hides a charge.

| Screen                     | What it means                                                                                                                      |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Credits added** | Done. *"\$X in postcard credits has been added to your balance."* |
| **Subscription active** | *"Thanks for subscribing! Your monthly AI design credits are on their way."* |
| **Payment received** | Paid; credits are still landing. *"Applying your credits — this usually takes a few seconds."* Refresh Billing in a moment. |
| **Payment processing** | *"Your payment is still processing. Credits are applied automatically the moment it settles."* Nothing more for you to do. |
| **Checkout not completed** | You closed or abandoned checkout. *"The payment wasn't completed. You can try again from the billing page — nothing was charged."* |
| **Something went wrong** | *"If you completed a payment, it will still be applied — check your balance in a minute or contact support."* |

<Check>
  When a top-up lands you'll see the new **Available Credits** figure, and a **Credit Added** row in **Transaction History**.
</Check>

## Transaction history

The Billing page's **Transaction History** card is your record of every credit movement. Press **View transactions** for a table of **Date · Type · Amount · Details**, 20 rows per page, with campaign charges linking straight to the campaign.

Types you'll see: **Credit Added**, **Hold**, **Charged**, **Refunded**, **Refund Pending**, **Refund Denied**, **Adjustment**, **Credit Purchase**, **Refund Reversal**, and **Credits Expired**.

This is the authoritative record of what you were charged. Spend figures shown elsewhere in the app are estimates for reporting — Transaction History is the real number.

## Receipts and invoices

* **Receipts for credit purchases are emailed** by the payment provider as soon as each payment settles.
* **If you have a monthly subscription**, open **Billing → Monthly Subscription → Manage subscription**. That opens the payment provider's billing portal, which is where **invoices, card updates, and cancellation** all live.
* **If you only ever buy credits** and have no subscription, there is no in-app invoice list — use the emailed receipts, or email [support@getmailr.com](mailto:support@getmailr.com) and we'll send copies.

## Updating your payment method

Press **Manage subscription** on the Billing page and update your card in the billing portal. If you don't have a subscription, there's nothing stored to update: each credit purchase asks for a card at checkout, and you can choose a different one — or a newly saved one — at that point.

## If a payment fails

Your subscription card shows a status badge: **Active**, **Trialing**, **Past Due**, **Unpaid**, **Incomplete**, or **Canceled**.

If a subscription payment fails, the badge turns **Past Due** or **Unpaid** and you'll get an email about it. Fix it by opening **Manage subscription** and updating the card; the retry happens on its own once a good card is on file.

In the short term, a failed subscription payment affects **your monthly AI design credits only** — postcard credits you have already bought stay in your balance and keep working. Prolonged non-payment can still lead to suspension of the account, so don't sit on those emails.

## When your balance runs low

Mailr doesn't auto-recharge, so it warns you instead.

* **Low credit balance warning** — a daily check emails you *"Mailr credits running low: \$X remaining"* with a one-click top-up link, at most once a week. Turn it on or off under **Settings → Account**; see [Workspace settings](/account/workspace-settings).
* **Automation held — needs credits** — if an [automated campaign](/campaigns/automations) can't submit for lack of credits, Mailr emails **"Automation campaign needs credits: \[name]"**. The campaign is **held in draft and auto-submits once you top up**, using the prefilled link in the email. Nothing is lost.
* **Submitting a campaign without enough credits** — the review step shows **Available Credits** in red with *"Insufficient credits — need $X, have $Y. Add credits"*. Nothing is charged and the campaign isn't submitted. Top up from that screen and submit again.

<Warning>
  Only the workspace Owner can complete a top-up. If an automation is held and your Owner is away, the campaign waits — it does not send and then bill you later.
</Warning>
